Why Diesel Costs $5.11/Gal in Florida

Florida has no major refineries - all fuel is imported by tanker or pipeline from Gulf Coast refineries. The Florida Strategic Intermodal System (SIS) highways (I-10, I-75, I-95) carry some of the highest truck-stop fuel volumes in the Southeast. Tourism and RV traffic create year-round diesel demand that's higher per capita than most other states. Florida's state diesel tax of 35.4 cents/gal reflects both the state fuel tax and local option taxes. Tampa and Jacksonville are the major fuel-distribution hubs.
