What readers paid for diesel in Minnesota

Prices readers report from the pump: what they paid, where, and how they paid. Each one is a single fill on the date shown, not a survey average; the weekly EIA figures elsewhere on this page are the survey.

No reader has reported a price in Minnesota yet. Yours would be the first.

What did you pay for diesel?

Tell us the price at your last fill and see how it compares with the government survey for your state. Your report goes on this site as a dated reader report; we publish your state and the first three digits of your ZIP, nothing else.

No account, no email. Prices far outside the usual range for your state are checked before they appear. See our privacy policy.

Read this as a district figure, not a state figure. The EIA weekly on-highway diesel survey prices the United States, its districts and California, and nothing else. It does not price Minnesota. The number above is Midwest (PADD 2), series EMD_EPD2D_PTE_R20_DPG, and it is the closest published federal figure for Minnesota. We do not estimate a price for Minnesota from it. 4 of Minnesota's neighbouring states sit in the same district and therefore show the same price below.

EIA does not publish a weekly on-highway diesel price for Minnesota. The federal survey prices the district Minnesota sits in, Midwest (PADD 2), at $6.480 per gallon in the week of October 26, 2026 (series EMD_EPD2D_PTE_R20_DPG), $0.13 above the US average of $6.352. Pump prices inside the district vary around that figure.

Off-road (dyed) diesel in Minnesota

Red-dyed diesel is the same fuel as clear diesel, sold without highway fuel taxes for uses off the public road. How Minnesota treats it, checked 25 October 2026. Rules for every state are on the off-road diesel guide.

Federal: dyed diesel skips the federal diesel tax except 0.1c. IRS news release IR-2026-122 (14 October 2026) waives federal penalties for highway use of dyed diesel from 1 October 2026 to 31 December 2026; state rules below still apply.
56.8ca gallon of per-gallon tax skipped: 24.3c federal and 32.5c Minnesota taxes and fees, though sales tax may apply instead (below).
Minnesota fuel tax on dyed diesel
Dyed diesel is sold without Minnesota's petroleum tax; the tax becomes due only if it is used in a licensed vehicle.
Sales tax
6.875% sales or use tax applies to dyed diesel unless an exemption does. Exempt with Form ST3: farm and industrial production, logging; also residential heating, trains and barges, and local governments using it in off-road equipment.
Per-gallon charges dyed diesel still pays
Petroleum inspection fee: 0.1c
Who may use it
Off-highway only; government units may use it in licensed vehicles but must then pay the special fuel tax.
Penalty for highway use
The greater of $1,000 or $10 a gallon per act, multiplied for repeat violations, plus the tax.
Roadside testing
No state roadside dye-testing programme found; the Department of Revenue runs a tip line (1-800-657-3500).
Buying it
No permit; anyone can buy it, and the user is liable for misuse. Give Form ST3 for a sales tax exemption.

Ask how a number on this page was built

Every figure on this site is read out of a published federal survey, which means there is always a real answer to where it came from. Send the question and a person reads it. Answers name the table, the series and the survey week, so you can go and look at the same row we did.

Where a question shows up a gap, the answer goes onto the page it came from as well as into the reply. If your question and its answer would be useful to other drivers we may publish an anonymised version, and we ask you before we do.
