What shapes the diesel price in Texas
Texas sits in the cheapest EIA diesel district. The Gulf Coast refining complex, centred on the Houston Ship Channel, is the largest in the world and processes over five million barrels a day of crude. Texas also levies one of the lowest state diesel taxes in the country. High interstate freight density, with I-10, I-20, I-35 and I-40 all crossing the state, creates intense retail competition among truck stops. Sunbelt dispatchers route fuelling through Texas whenever deadhead or repositioning allows.
